NACCIMA Prominent in UNICEF Conference on Market-Based Solutions for IDPs in Lagos

Lagos, February 12, 2026 — The Director-General of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Engr. Sola Obadimu, on Thursday played a prominent role at the UNICEF Conference on Market-Based Solutions for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), held at the Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Engr. Obadimu featured as a key presenter, delivering insights on “Reflections on Local Enterprise and Job Creation in Displacement Settings.” In his presentation, he highlighted the critical role of local enterprises and private sector engagement in fostering sustainable livelihoods for displaced populations across Nigeria.
He emphasized that market-driven approaches remain essential to building resilience and reducing dependency in displacement contexts.
He also moderated a breakout session panel discussion on “Strengthening Livelihoods via Market-Based WASH Programmes,” where stakeholders explored innovative strategies to integrate water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) initiatives with income-generating opportunities for affected communities.
The conference was declared open by the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Alhaji Kashim Shettima, represented by the Minister of Defence, General Chris Musa. In his remarks, the Vice-President underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to durable, market-oriented solutions that empower IDPs and promote inclusive economic growth.
The high-level event drew participation from State Governors, representatives of key Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), including the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), the Bank of Industry (BOI), and the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN). Private sector associations and industry leaders were also in attendance, reflecting strong cross-sector collaboration toward sustainable displacement solutions.
The conference reaffirmed the importance of leveraging market-based approaches to create jobs, strengthen livelihoods, and support long-term recovery efforts for internally displaced persons in Nigeria.
