Nigeria and Mexico Strengthen Ties in First Consultation Mechanism Meeting

Nigeria and Mexico have initiated their first Consultation Mechanism meeting, aimed at bolstering bilateral relations and exploring areas of mutual interest. The meeting, co-chaired by Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria, and Ambassador Anibal Gomez Toledo, Director-General for Africa, Central Asia and Middle-East, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, took place on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Minister’s Conference Room, 8th Floor, Abuja.

 

Key discussion points included the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Mexico, economic and trade relations, and the promotion of the Nigeria-Mexico Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The meeting also explored opportunities for trade, investment, and business linkages, as well as pending candidacies of both countries at multilateral fora, including participation in the G-20 Summit and reform of the United Nations.

The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation between the two nations, with a focus on regional affairs, including the ECOWAS regional situation.
