The Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (CANUK), has responded to allegations of extortion at the Nigerian High Commission in London, specifically regarding the processing of Emergency Travel Certificates (ETCs) and Passports. CANUK has clarified that the fees charged for these services are in line with the official and statutory rates.

Official Fees are as follows:
– Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC): £120
– Royal Mail secure postage service: £12 (optional)
– Passport issuance/renewal: $230 (64-page booklet) or $150 (32-page booklet)

Response to Allegations
CANUK has investigated the specific case raised by Dr. Chido A.A and confirmed that the fees paid for the ETCs were accurate and transparent. The association emphasizes that the ETC is a specially printed and crested document with security features to ensure authenticity.

Advice to Nigerians in the UK
CANUK reminds Nigerians in the UK to apply for Passports and ETCs directly through the Nigerian High Commission to avoid misinformation, additional expenses, and unnecessary delays. The association is committed to fostering cooperation with the High Commission to uphold transparency, accountability, and efficient service delivery.
