INEC Announces Outcome of Bye-Elections and Re-Run Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has released the results of 16 bye-elections and two court-ordered re-run elections held across the country on August 16, 2025. The elections were conducted in various constituencies, with some results declared while others were inconclusive due to violence or other issues.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), won most of the seats, with notable victories in Edo Central Senatorial District, Ovia Federal Constituency, and other constituencies.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), secured two seats in Anambra, including the Anambra South Senatorial District, where Emmanuel Nwachukwu emerged as the winner.

The election in Kaura Namoda South State Constituency of Zamfara State was declared inconclusive due to violence in five polling units, with a supplementary election scheduled for August 21, 2025.

On re- run elections, Ngene Bright Emeka of the Labour Party (LP) was declared winner of the Enugu South 1 State Constituency re-run election while Ya’u Garba Gwarmai of the APC emerged victorious in the Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency re-run election.

Certificates of Return will be presented to Senators-elect and members of the House of Representatives-elect on August 21, 2025, at the INEC National Headquarters in Abuja, while Certificates of Return for State Houses of Assembly members-elect will be presented by Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in state offices on August 22, 2025.
