INEC Partners Traditional Rulers Ahead Of Voter Registration In Osun

As part of efforts to strengthen grassroots participation in the electoral process, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Osun State has commenced stakeholder engagement with traditional institutions ahead of the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, led a delegation of INEC officials on a courtesy and sensitisation visit to the Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Oyedotun, at his palace in Ila-Orangun.
The visit is one of several community outreach strategies by the Commission aimed at raising awareness ahead of the CVR. According to INEC, the online pre-registration portal will go live on August 18, while in-person registration at designated centres will commence on August 25, 2025.
Dr. Agboke, accompanied by the Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Victoria Temitayo Adelusi, alongside departmental heads, Electoral Officers (EOs), and Assistant Electoral Officers (AEOs) from the three Local Government Areas in the axis, emphasised the critical role traditional rulers play in the democratic process.
“Traditional rulers remain powerful custodians of culture and vital channels for mobilising our people,” Dr. Agboke said. “The success of the CVR depends largely on awareness and local support, and this palace remains a key partner in that regard.”

He appealed to the Orangun of Ila to support INEC by encouraging his subjects particularly first-time voters and residents who have changed locations to take advantage of the CVR window to register or update their voter details.
In his response, Oba Wahab Oyedotun assured the Commission of the palace’s full cooperation and pledged to use all traditional structures to educate and mobilise the people of Ila and neighbouring communities.
The monarch praised INEC for its renewed emphasis on local engagement and inclusivity and affirmed his commitment to ensuring a robust turnout during the CVR exercise.
This latest engagement underscores INEC’s strategic focus on collaboration with grassroots institutions to boost voter education and participation, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
