DICAN SECURITY CONFERENCE: “Don’t Turn the Pen into a Sword”- Henry Mbadiwe Warns Media, Urges Ethical Journalism

In a powerful presentation, the Registrar-General and CEO of the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN), Mr. Henry Mbadiwe, has urged the media to uphold ethical journalism standards. Speaking at the DICAN Bi-Annual International Conference 2025, Mbadiwe emphasized the need for responsible communication in a time plagued by misinformation and global security challenges.
Mbadiwe urged journalists to verify, research, and reflect before publishing, warning that the pen is increasingly being used as a sword, a tool of harm rather than truth.
He emphasized the importance of sound project management principles in diplomacy and security sectors, including goal setting, stakeholder analysis, resource alignment, and strategic communication.
Mbadiwe reminded the media of their sacred role in nation-building, calling for a shift from sensationalism to solution-based reporting.
Conference Theme
The conference theme was “Nigeria’s 4Ds Foreign Policy Strategy Amidst Global Security Challenges, Strategic Misconceptions, and the Age of Disinformation: The Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence and Media in Shaping National and Global Stability.”
Mbadiwe shared his personal experience of being targeted by unverified and damaging media reports, stating, “I returned from the UK to serve my country, not to be destroyed by false headlines.”
