Nigeria Commits to Implementing Cape Town Convention … Najamo applauds Aviation Minister, Stakeholders

The 2024 Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Conference has kicked off in Nigeria, marking a crucial milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen its aviation sector. The conference focuses on the implementation of the Cape Town Convention and Aircraft Protocol, essential instruments for promoting growth, stability, and resilience in the aviation industry.

Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), welcomed dignitaries, including the Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo. The Director General expressed gratitude to Keyamo for his leadership and commitment to the growth of the aviation sector, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Capt Najamo specifically applauded the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, for his visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to the growth of our sector.
“His dogged dedication reflects the principles of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes economic development, innovation, and global competitiveness”, he noted.

The Cape Town Convention aims to:

– Streamline Aircraft Transactions: Simplify buying, selling, and leasing aircraft internationally, protecting creditors’ rights and reducing financing costs.
– Improve Legal Consistency: Establish a centralized electronic registry for registering interests, ensuring transparency and public notice.
– Promote Industry Standards: Align national regulations with global best practices, supporting industry growth and stability.

Nigeria’s aviation sector has shown significant potential for driving economic transformation, connecting communities, and promoting regional integration. The country’s improved ranking on the Aviation Working Group’s Cape Town Convention Compliance Index is a testament to its progress.

The NCAA has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the Cape Town Convention, issuing an Advisory Circular to provide guidance on civil aviation regulatory requirements and procedures. With the conference, Nigeria is poised to build a resilient, competitive, and globally recognized aviation sector ¹.
