Meet Cheikh Touré, the new face of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Nigeria.
With over two decades of experience in combating crime, addressing corruption, and supporting drug control efforts worldwide, Cheikh is the perfect candidate to lead the United Nations Office for Drug and Crimes (UNODC’s), mission in Nigeria.
As a seasoned leader with global experience, Cheikh has worked in various countries, including Chad, South Sudan, DRC, Palestine, Lao PDR, Gabon, Nigeria, and Cote d’Ivoire. His extensive experience has equipped him with the skills to fortify legal frameworks, bolster law enforcement capabilities, and foster community resilience.
Cheikh’s academic credentials are impressive, with a bachelor’s degree from Institut Superieur de Management in Dakar and a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University in Washington DC. His strategic approach to complex global challenges is rooted in his academic background and wealth of experience.
As the new UNODC Representative in Nigeria, Cheikh is committed to introducing innovative strategies to address critical issues such as drug control, anti-corruption measures, transnational organized crime, and criminal justice reforms. His approach is expected to ensure that Nigeria’s efforts are not only effective domestically but also align seamlessly with the broader ecosystem of West and Central Africa.
Cheikh’s vision for Nigeria is built on strengthening partnerships for sustainable impact. He is committed to collaborating with the Nigerian government, civil society groups, and international partners to implement effective solutions. He also emphasizes the importance of youth engagement and gender equality, particularly in the context of Women, Peace, and Security initiatives and regional stabilization efforts.
