NIGERIA DRIVES SUSTAINABILITY: Federal Ministry of Transportation Convenes Stakeholders Forum on Advancing Mass Transit

The Federal Ministry of Transportation recently held a 2-Day Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum on Mass Transit Scheme in Abuja, from October 24-25, 2024. The theme, “Advancing Sustainable Mass Transit,” brought together key players in the transportation sector to map out a sustainable, efficient, and inclusive mass transit system for Nigeria.
The event was hosted by the The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Adeleye Adeoye, alongside the Director, Road Transport and Mass Transit Administration, Musa Ibrahim which drew representatives from Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), President of Female Drivers Association of Nigeria, Director, Public Transport and Engineering Planet Projects Limited amidst other relevant stakeholders meet to chart a national path towards a sustainable, efficient and inclusive Mass Transit operations in the country.
This forum aimed to promote connectivity, trade, economic growth, and employment while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainable transport is vital for achieving sustainable development, and this engagement forum marked a crucial step towards that goal.
By shifting focus towards sustainable mass transit, Nigeria can reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and create a better future for its citizens. This aligns with global efforts, such as the United Nations’ World Sustainable Transport Day, which highlights the importance of sustainable transport systems.
