NSCC, UNDESA Collaborate on Capacity Building Workshop to improve care of the Elderly

National Senior Citizen Centre (NSCC), in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), today begins A-2 Day International Workshop: On-Boarding of Domiciliary Care Agency Model in Nigeria.

The occasion marked the opening ceremony of the NSCC-UNDESA international workshop, aimed at introducing the innovative Domiciliary Care Agency model to Nigeria. This pioneering approach would revolutionize care for senior citizens, providing them with comprehensive support in the comfort of their own homes.
Speaking Dr. Omokaro exhibited her usual passion for the welfare of senior citizens shone through. She emphasized the importance of the initiative, highlighting the need for a more inclusive and supportive society for Nigeria’s aging population.
The audience listened intently, comprising notable figures such as Dr. Salma Ibrahim Anas, Senior Special Adviser to the President on Health, and Mr. Abel Enitan, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, who appreciated the UN Agencies and their representatives for the sustained technical support for the programs of the National Senior Citizens Centre, as the Centre continues to break new grounds and to build institutional and human resources, and engagement mechanisms, to roll out the full range of programs and project activities to meet the health, social care, as well as, economic empowerment needs of older persons in Nigeria.
A special guest, Mr. Robert Venne, Senior Social Affairs Officer from the United Nations Headquarters in New York, had traveled far to join the occasion. His presence underscored the global significance of this initiative and the UN’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s efforts.
As the workshop commenced, a sense of hope and collaboration filled the air. The Domiciliary Care Agency model promised a brighter future for Nigeria’s senior citizens, one where they would receive the care and dignity they deserved. Dr. Omokaro’s vision had set the stage for a new era in senior care, and the journey had just begun.
