INEC/ TEI Organises methodology workshop for Field Officers on the Election Violence Mitigation and Advocacy Tool

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), through the Electoral Institute (TEI), on Wednesday, 27th September, 2023 organized a methodology workshop for Field Officers on the Election Violence Mitigation and Advocacy Tool (EVMAT) at Owerri, Imo State in Nigeria to prepare for the conduct of the forthcoming 11th November Imo Governorship Election
The workshop aimed at equipping field survey agents with requisite information and knowledge before deployment of the live survey instruments for collection of data from their assigned Local Government Areas.
The objective of the workshop is to provide and equip participants with requisite knowledge and information on what to do in order to properly elicit data, (through the deployment of research instruments) that will help the Commission put in place effective security measures for the conduct of free, fair, credible, peaceful, and inclusive governorship election in Imo State.
The workshop was graced by the presence of Hon. National Commissioner Muhammad Kudu Haruna, Chair BOSTEC and Member of the Board of the Electoral Institute. In his goodwill messages, the Hon. Nat. Commissioner urged participants to pay attention and acquire the relevant skills for the collection of accurate and reliable data for valid inferences and mapping of possible hotspots and flash points.
Also, present at the occasion is the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Imo State, Prof. Sylvia Agu. She welcomed all participants and urged them to make the Governorship Election a memorable event for the people of Imo by helping the Commission to take appropriate violence mitigation strategies.
The Director-General of the Electoral Institute, Dr Saad Umar Idris, ably represented by the Director, Research and Documentation, Prof Ibrahim Sani, urged participants to remain committed to the workshop which has been designed to train field agents on how best to deploy the Tool and achieve good results.
