The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), with the mandate to revitalise and grow the Nigeria automotive sector is positioning Nigeria as one of the leading automotive manufacturing nations in the world because of its multiplier effect on the economy, given that it has strong linkages to many industries such as: the iron and steel industry, Rubber and Plastics, copper, electronics, wood, textiles, lithium amongst others.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC), approved new 2023 Auto Policy in a memo presented by the former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo on May 10th, 2023.
The NADDC led by Engr Jelani Aliyu has developed the new plan to aggressively build on the successes that have been achieved so far in the Nigerian Automotive industry: the new NAIDP would strategically provide outstandingly competitive fiscal and non fiscal incentives needed by automotive industry manufacturers/producers, investors, developers and all relevant stakeholders.
The new approved NAIDP is aimed at enabling the exponential increase in the local production numbers of vehicles, reaching 40% local content, attaining 30% locally produced Electric Vehicles, generating 1million jobs, enforcing patronage of locally produced vehicles by government and companies working on government contracts, and also boosting R&D and technology transfer.
The National Automotive Design and Development Council was formed by Act no. 83 of 30th May 2014 from the merger of the National Automotive Council and the Centre for Automotive Design and Development as a Parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment.
