The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase has  continued his all embracing advocacy Meetings with different Stakeholders of the Commission today, Thursday, April 27th with a visit to CLEEN Foundation, a civil Society group promoting public safety and security and accessible justice in Nigeria and also hosted the Leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists.

At the CLEEN Foundation office, he declared that indiscipline will no longer be tolerated in the Police Force while announcing the setting up of a Parallel Complaint Response Unit at the Commission to Police the Police.

The Chairman noted that a Police Force that does not connect with the public or respect human rights will find it difficult to succeed.

He said he would do everything possible to improve the services of the Nigeria Police, adding that the Police and even the Commission need training and retraining.

The PSC Chairman called for assistance from CLEEN Foundation on this direction adding that the Police needs the best hands in the society. He commended the foundation for their tremendous positive impact in policing in Nigeria.

The Executive Director of the Foundation, Gad Peter said civil society groups were excited with the appointment of Dr. Arase to head the Commission and noted that they will support his mandate and his vision.

Mr Peter mentioned the issue of Police brutality and impunity and called on the PSC Chairman to put an end to it. ” We are looking for a more professional Police Force during your tenure and we also want better funding for the Force” he added.

Speaking when he received the Leadership of the NUJ, led by its National President, Chief Ikeddy Isiguzo, the PSC Chairman observed that the nation was going through transformation in all sectors with worldwide security challenges which he said has imposed additional burden on the nation to cope with rising criminality and divisive forces. These, he noted required the synergy of all stakeholders to enable the nation navigate through these trying times effectively. ” I count on your support” he told his guests.
The National President of the Union in his remarks requested for a forum for Journalists and the Police to interact and understand themselves better as both parties work in the interest of national development.
