NACOP Assures Access To Stable Power Supply

Energy security is becoming increasingly globalized.

In Nigeria, access to reliable and stable supply of electricity is a major challenge for both the urban and rural dwellers.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Power, Temitope Fashedemi, made the statement in his remarks at 5th National Council on Power (NACOP), held on Monday 5th December,2022 in Abuja.

Speaking on the theme: “Sustaining and improving electricity supply through the power sector value chain for socio economic growth”, Fashedemi assures that the council,government and it’s partners are investing in a safe and reliable electricity network to support sustainable electricity production and energy efficiency.

Also, this gathering will examine the potential of renewable energy (RE) resources in Nigeria that can be harnessed for continuous energy supply and the government’s efforts to ensure RE‘s sustainability. He added

By the year 2030, we wish to achieve 30 gigabytes of electricity and hope that 30% will come from renewable energy sources, he said.

Speaking with journalists, the Managing Director Rural Electrification Agency(REA),Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad said the agency has previously focused on grid extension investments but is now mandated to concentrate on providing off-grid solutions to rural dwellers such as minigrids and solar home systems. REA’s goal is to encourage and promote private sector participation in rural development using the nation’s abundant renewable energy sources while ensuring that Government Agencies, Co-operatives and Communities, actively participate in enhancing electricity service delivery.

Salihijo applauded NACOP, urge stakeholders to share initiatives for improved service delivering
