How TCN Power Station Fire, plunged Calabar to darkness

On Friday, September 2, 2022, the transmission line of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), in Calabar was gutted by fire thereby plunging the city of Calabar and its environs into darkness.
The fire which reportedly started around 3: 30 pm affected the transmission line of the 330/132 KVA substation at Ikot Nyong in Adiabo, Calabar, Cross River State that delivers power from Alaoji Power Station to Calabar and its environs.
It took the valiant effort of the men of the Nigeria Fire Service to quell the fire which lasted over 5 hours with the residents of the State being thrown into darkness for two days after the fire incident.
Reacting to the incident, Ndidi Mba, the General Manager, Public Affairs of TCN said Management has moved to assuage the frustrations of the people by assuring them of the effort they are putting to fix the damages caused by the inferno promising a restoration of power supply during the week.
Recall that the city of Calabar was without power supply for over 50 days as a result of damaged cables which supplies power to the city.
The Adiabo transmission line was one of the many power projects completed by then President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, in its determination to expand the entire power sector in general and the transmission grid in particular .
