DG NSCC Pays Courtesy Visit To DG NIMC….. Looks forward to Strategic Partnership.

The Director General, National Senior Citizens Centre, Dr.Emem Omokaro Ph.D visits the DG National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), in Abuja on Tuesday 25th January, 2022.
In her address, Dr. Emem stated the mandates of the centre.
” NSCC was established pursuant to the National Senior Citizens Centre Act,2017 with a mandate to identify the needs of older persons and to cater for them, she added.
The NSCC Boss lamented the exclusion of older persons she said,
”Social inclusion, which is a pillar of the National Development Plan 2021-2025, is driven by equity and social justice for all aligning with the SDGs agenda 2030 strategy of leaving no one behind.
However, senior citizens have been considerably denied access to health, economic and social services, mostly through physical and social environments which present barriers to their participation in what they value.
” The presidential Declaration on the registration of senior citizens with the issuance of ID cards to facilitate senior citizens’ social inclusion and participation gives impetus to accelerated concrete procedures and mechanisms for the enhancement of age friendly environments and services in line with the NSCC Act,2017 and the Discrimination against Persons with Disability Prohibition Act, 2018″, adding that NSCC will priotize strategic partnerships with MDAs through advocacy and mainstreaming, Emem added.
The DG, NSCC said the centre looks forward to partner with NIMC in setting up a Technical Working Group to come up with modalities on registration of senior citizens and issuance of ID cards.
Responding, the Director General, National Identity Management Commission, Dr Aliyu Aziz applauds the centre and stated that their mandate is very important to the society at large.
Aliyu notified that old age is where we are all headed and as such, assures support for NSCC movement.
He encouraged NSCC to organize programs that will harness the wisdom, talents and skills of the older persons.
