CLEEN Foundation Holds A Two-Day Capacity Building Program for Nigeria Police.

Globally conflicts situations have over the years continued to worse with severe implications for peace and security of human lives. Several persons are killed, maimed, abducted, displaced from their ancestral homes on a daily basis.
The Acting Executive Director CLEEN Foundation , Mrs Ruth Olofin made this statement on 10th November,2021 at Abuja where the foundation holds a two- day capacity building program for officers of the Nigeria Police on exploring GEOSPATIAL technology in the search for missing persons in Nigeria.
According to her, since October 2020, the spate of abductions, kidnappings enforced disappearances by security agencies and armed non-state actors increased.
It is only disheartening that families and the loved ones of missing persons bear the brunt of the emotional and psychological trauma of not knowing where their loved one is.
Some family members have suffered deterioration in their health because of cases of missing persons.This was gotten from a media report,she added.
The Government in it part trying to curb this menace, has adopted different techniques and strategies such as tracing of mobile lines,digital footprints in collaboration with telecommunication providers.
” To further address the challenges,they are increasingly turning to satellites and other digital imagery systems such as geospatial satellite imagery,photos videos and otje warning signals, Ruth stated
She added: these new developments present great opportunities for addressing the challenges of missing persons and also security issues in Nigeria.
It is on this basis that this capacity building for the Nigeria Police is aimed at exploring how geospatial technology have been or could be used to trace missing persons in Nigeria due to the mandate of the Nigeria Police Force as the lead agency on internal security in Nigeria.
The sessions will focus on geospatial technologies, remote sensing and photogrammetry and the use of geospatial evidence in human rights fact finding, she notified.
It is our expectations that at the end of the training,the capacity of the carefully nominated and trained officers of the Nigeria Police Force will be strengthened in utilizing geospatial technologies for securing evidence to determine the status of the missing and resolve related cases will be improved upon,Ruth concluded
Speaking also, the Commissioner of Police in charge of ICT force headquarters Abuja, S.K Akonde who represented the Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali Baba as well as The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of ICT Force headquarters said:
The Nigeria Police Force has more than enough human resources to key into this project and put it to use immediately.
He added that the level of accomplishment of the NPF is very high such that when they are deployed to situations that looked al most impossible, you marveled at the result.
Compol Akonde assured CLEEN Foundation that at their own end, they are gonna try so fast to step down the knowledge to other colleagues down to the grassroots.
