WORLD IMMUNIZATION WEEK STARTS TODAY
The Immunization Day starts today with the theme ‘Vaccines bring us closer’, World Immunization Week 2021 (24-30 April) will show how vaccination connects us to the people, goals and moments that matter to us most, helping improve the health of everyone, everywhere throughout life.
The COVID-19 pandemic has reminded the world of the power of vaccines to fight disease, save lives, and create a healthier, safer, more prosperous future. At the same time, disruptions caused by COVID-19 have severely impacted immunization programmes, leaving millions of children at risk for deadly diseases.
On Monday (26 April), WHO and partners will launch the new Immunization Agenda 2030, an ambitious global strategy to maximize the lifesaving impact of vaccines over the next decade. Together with UNICEF and Gavi, WHO will also release new data on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on vaccination campaigns and services, while new WHO modelling will show the number of lives saved through routine vaccines given in childhood and adolescence.
