Women Affairs seeks partnership with States to boost Gender Equality

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has expressed its readiness to collaborate with state governments in order to promote gender equality and empower women to take on more active roles in economic and democratic processes.

During a courtesy visit to the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, Monday, the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, stated that the collaboration aims to create an enabling environment for the promotion of the gender’s activities, capacity-building as well as participation in decision-making positions

The Minister highlighted the need to address prevalent issues affecting women, such as out-of-school drop-outs, VVF, poverty, as well as sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), among others

She emphasized the importance of establishing mobile courts in the state to curtail harmful practices against women and children

Kennedy-Ohanenye also held interactive sessions with women leaders in the state, urging them to form cooperatives and join the Ministry’s e-commerce portal to access opportunities created by the present administration for their economic
upliftment.

The Minister also assured that the Ministry will continue to clamour for 35% affirmative action for women across the board to ensure that Nigerian women are given the opportunity to contribute their quota to the growth and development of the nation in line with global realities

The visit further enabled the Minister to interact with women in the state, gain a firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by the gender as well as children, in order to proffer lasting solutions to them.

She assured of the Ministry’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for upliftment of the lives of women, children and the vulnerable in society, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration

Responding, the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, commended the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs as well as the Ministry’s Management team for their avowed commitment to the cause of women and children in the country

While acknowledging the crucial role the gender play in shaping the society, he expressed his administration’s readiness to partner with the Ministry through the implementation of programmes and policies that promote gender equality and women empowerment in the state.
