WEATHER ALERT: Dust Haze, Fog, and Thunderstorms Expected Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook for the next three days, from Wednesday, 13th- Friday, 15th January, 2026, predicting thick dust haze over the Northern and Central regions, while the Southern region can expect early morning fog and isolated thunderstorms with light rains.
According to the forecast, the Northern region will experience thick dust haze throughout the period, while the Central region will see slight dust haze on Wednesday, escalating to thick dust haze on Thursday and Friday
In the Southern region, early morning fog and mist are expected over coastal cities on Wednesday, giving way to sunny skies with patches of clouds and isolated thunderstorms with light rains over parts of Bayelsa and Rivers states in the afternoon and evening.
On Thursday and Friday, moderate dust haze will affect the Southern region, with isolated thunderstorms and light rains still possible over Bayelsa and Rivers states.
Advisory:
i. Dust particles are in suspension; the public should take necessary precaution.
ii. People with Asthmatic health condition and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather
condition.
iii. Driving under rain should be with caution.
iv. Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet
for effective planning in their operations.
