Unruly Passenger Charged to Court Over Ibom Air Saga

Ms Chiamaka Don Ubani, the unruly passenger involved in the Ibom Air saga, has been charged to court by the Nigeria Police. The charges include intentionally preventing the door of the aircraft from closing, causing obstruction of flight Q1528, and constituting herself into a public nuisance.
The Nigeria Police filed two counts against Ms Ubani. Count 1 alleges that she maliciously prevented the door of the aircraft from closing, thereby committing an offense punishable under section 436 of the criminal code, cap 39, volume. 2, laws of Akwa Ibom State. Count 2 accuses her of obstructing flight Q1528 from flying at the scheduled time, causing inconvenience or damage to passengers and the general public, an offense punishable under section 196(1)(f) of the criminal code.
Ms Ubani was released on bail on Friday, January 10, 2025, and is scheduled to appear in court again on February 4, 2025, at the Uyo Magistrate Court.
