The Management of the University of Calabar on Wednesday November 9, 2022, alerted students and members of the public of imminent cult activities and kidnapping set to cause mayhem on campus.
In a release signed by the University Registrar, Gabriel Egbe, the warning came from a classified intelligence report by security agencies.
According to the statement, the security reports indicated that any moment from now, there would be heightened cult activities and kidnapping within and around the University of Calabar environment.
“The perceived kidnapping incidents are to be carried out by militants, and their targets would be resident lecturers and some identified students. The attackers according to the reports, may use the waterways and adjoining creeks to launch their attacks.
“Management wishes to reiterate its earlier position on the closing of all entry and exit points into and from the University campus,” the statement added.
The management urged staff and students to go about their legitimate activities without fear of intimidation from any quarters, directing the Acting Chief Security Officer to ensure adequate surveillance on campus.
