Unical appoints two women as DVCs … Promotes 30 academics to Professors

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar and Chairman of Senate, Prof. Florence Obi, has announced the appointment of two female Deputy Vice Chancellors (DVC’s) of the institution.

This was contained in a release signed Monday, December 26, 2022 by the Registrar of the institution, Mr Gabriel Egbe.

Prof. Angela Oyo-Ita was re-appointed for a second term as DVC Academic while Prof. Grace Eno was newly appointed as DVC Administration.

Egbe said that the appointments were ratified by Senate members at the 231st meeting said,

“The VC lauded the former DVC Administration, Prof. Michael Okom and Oyo-Ita, for the good working relationship and their supportive stance for her administration.
“The VC described them as God-chosen for helping her to stabilise at the early stage of her administration.

“The new DVC Administration, who accepted her appointment with joy, said her appointment is a divine providence.

“While speaking to members of the Senate, she assured them and the VC of her loyalty and determination to work for the best interest of the management and the institution,” Egbe said.

He also said that the former DVC Administration has been appointed as the Director of Alumni Relations of the university
Unical promotes 30 academics to Professors

Also ratified by the 231st Senate meeting of the institution was the promotion of 30 academics to the position of Professors and Associate Professors in the University.

In a separate press release, Egbe said that 12 academics were elevated to the rank of Professors while 18 were raised to the status of Associate Professors.

The new Professors are: Agba Ogaboh (Sociology), Grace Etuk (Sociology), Uchenna Okonkwo (Internal Medicine), Soter Ameh (Community Medicine), Charles Njoku (Obstetrics and Gynaecology), Charles Anyanechi (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery), Joseph Ebigwai (Plant and Ecological Studies), Frank Enor (History/Int Studies), Amenawo Offiong (Banking/Finance), Bassey Bassey (Educational Foundations), Comfort Etor (Educational Management), and Joy Njoku (Educational Foundations).

The new Associate Professors include Jacob Otu-Enyia (Law), Rev. Julius Ada (Business Management), Glory Etim (Marketing), Affiong Oku (Community Medicine), Ofem Enang (Internal Medicine), Bernadine Ekpenyong (Public Health), Gabriel Udo-Affah (Anatomical Science), Janet Petters (Guidance and Counselling), Mary Iyam (Vocational and Science Education), Idorenyin Udo (Crop Science) and Devalsam Eni (Evironmental Sciences).

Others are Henry Okpa (Internal Medicine), Lionel Effiom (Economics), Eucharia Obiekezie (Arts Education), Alexander Timothy (Arts Education), Veronica Nakanda (Social Science Education), Vitalis Eke (Special Education) and Moses Adah-Abua (Geography).

“The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Obi, congratulated them on their new appointments and charged them to continually devote themselves to the cause of building the University,” Egbe concluded.
