UNEP TO LAUNCH FIRST ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE PROJECT IN KENYA

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), has said that launch of the first electric motorcycles pilot project in Kenya will come up on Tuesday, 2nd of March, 2021 at Karura Forest, Nairobi, Kenya.
The purpose of the launch event will be for UNEP to present the 50 electric motorcycles, and the four pilot partners that will pilot these motorcycles in Kenya.
The pilot project is part of the overall UNEP electric mobility programme and will start the switch over to electric motorcycles in Kenya.
Speakers at the event include, Ms Joyce Msuya, Deputy Executive Director, UNEP, H.E. Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, E.G.H., Governor of Kisumu County, Hon. Mr. Charles Keter, E.G.H., Kenya Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Hon. Mr. James Wainaina Macharia, E.G.H., Kenya Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works
Others are, Mr. Bernard Ngugi, M.D. & CEO, Kenya Power and Mr. Nigel Topping, UK High Level Climate Action Champion, UNFCCC COP26
After the launch the motorcycles will be presented, followed by a demonstration.
UNEP said due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the space is limited and only journalists who will have confirmed their participation by 28 February 2021 at 5:00pm will be allowed in.
