UN-POLAC honours Rivers State Governor Fubara and Speaker Jumbo

The United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Center (UNPOLAC) has chosen Rivers State to exhibit their Pilot Peace Project and Programmes aimed at demonstrating skills in the field of peace building, conflict resolution on community sensitization, crisis prevention youth restiveness among others.

To this end ,the board of Directors of UNPOLAC has honoured His Excellency,the Executive Governor of Rivers State,Siminalayi Fubara with the highest award of “Grand Commander of Peace while the Speaker Rivers state house of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Victor Oko Jumbo was honoured with Ambassador of Peace award

The Deputy Country President UNPOLAC, Amb.Peter Ohagwa made the submission at the inaugural Convention of Rivers state UNPOLAC Chapter.

Amb.Ohagwa while suing for peaceful coexistence and tolerance in the state,urged all stakeholders to amicably resolve their grievances for the interest of the citizenry.

“Rivers state is the fifth most populous State in Nigeria with over three million residents, it is also second largest economy in the country next to Lagos,Port Harcourt city ,the State Capital is one of the largest cities in the country and contributes significantly to the nation financially.”he said..

He also explained that peace building is a collective efforts,and solicits for the support and cooperation of Rivers state government towards effective coordination and promotion of peaceful atmosphere.

 

“We have also observed that His Excellency Sir, Siminalayi Fubara the Executive Governor of
Rivers State has consistently advocated for peaceful settlement of all political impasses within
the State.
Therefore, in recognition of His Excellency’s consistence peaceful depositions in crisis, the
Board of Directors of UN-POLAC Nigeria decided to honour your Excellency with our highest
award as the “Grand Commander of Peace”.

In a remark, the Speaker,Rivers State House of Assembly,Rt Hon.Victor Oko Jumbo represented by the Clerk Dr G.M Gills West commended the efforts and commitment of UNPOLAC in promoting peaceful coexistence, reiterated the commitment of the state Assembly in advancing the course of peace in the state and country at large.

Earlier in her remarks, the Country President of UN POLAC,Prof Fumi Davies called for proactive measures by Peace advocates and stakeholders towards maintenance as well as sustainace of Peace and Security in the Country,and also restoration of human dignity.

The Convention with the theme”Effective Reconciliation Process to Enhance Peaceful Coexistence Amongst the Citizenry “also featured awards presentation to Peace Advocates,including Mayor of Peace to the Chief of Staff Rivers state government house, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Edison O. Ehie, DSSRS Ph.D

 

However,this publication refutes any other publication done in error about UNPOLAC and Peace Award in Rivers state.
