UI VC receives a congratulatory message from Women in Science

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, FAS, mni, received members of the Executive Committee of Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (Ibadan Branch) (OWSD) on Monday, 07 March, 2022 on a courtesy visit to his office.

In her address, the Coordinator, Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (Ibadan Branch), Prof. Funmilola Ajani said the executive members had come to pay a congratulatory visit to the Vice-Chancellor on the attainment of his new position and to intimate him of their activities.

Prof. Ajani noted that the organisation has close to five hundred (500) members in Ibadan branch, drawn from Universities, Polytechnics and Research Institutes within the state. She informed the VC that the present executive committee, which came on board in 2019 will handover in July 2022.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale accepted the congratulatory message and thanked the women, stating that the role of women in national development cannot be overemphasised. He noted that the University of Ibadan is blessed with very high cerebral and impactful women whose performances are yielding productive results.

Prof. Adebowale eulogized women for the capacity with which they are endowed in combining home and career, which has in turn increased their prospects. He, therefore, charged OSWD to use its capacity to enrich research in UI by mentoring the early career women and young academics to publish in high impact journals.

Akinyele, Renewable Natural Resources; Dr. Olutoyin A. Fashae, Social Sciences; Dr. Olajumoke Y. Alabi, Agriculture; Dr. Bukola O. Ochei, Law; Dr. Mojisola A. Bolarinwa, Technology; Dr. Omowumi Femi-Akinlosotu, College of Medicine; Dr. Tolulope V. Gbadamosi, Education and Dr. Oluyemi Adetoyi, Technology. Others were Dr. Olajumoke O. Fayinminnu, Financial Secretary; Dr. Oluwaseun A. Adeleke, Public Relations Officer; Dr. Adedotun O. Afolayan, National Centre for General Resources & Biotechnology; Dr. Blessing I. Nwadike, Department of Microbiology and Dr. Folake T. Afolabi, Department of Microbiology.

Present at the occasion were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Aderonke M. Baiyeroju; Deputy Registrar, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Mrs. Morenike F. Afolabi and the Public Relations Officer, Directorate of Public Communication, Mrs. Adejoke O. Akinpelu.
