Travel Advisory Issued for Nigerian Nationals Planning to Visit Australia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Nigeria has issued a travel advisory for Nigerian citizens planning to visit Australia, citing concerns over the prevailing security situation in some cities. The advisory warns of reported cases of discrimination, harassment, and verbal abuse targeted at foreigners, particularly in the wake of recent antisemitic and Islamophobic hate crimes.

While Australia is generally known for its multiculturalism and tolerance, incidents of Islamophobia and antisemitism have occurred in certain areas, including a disturbing incident in the Sydney suburb of Woollahra in early December 2024. Nigerian travellers and residents in Australia are advised to exercise extra vigilance and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and comfort.

In case of any racist attack or harassment, Nigerian nationals are advised to contact the High Commission of Nigeria in Canberra, Australia, at +61262158500 or via email at chancery@nigeria-can.org.au. To
