Tragedy Strikes in Port Harcourt: Helicopter Crash Claims Lives

A devastating helicopter accident occurred today, October 24, 2024, in Port Harcourt. The Sikorsky SK76 helicopter, operated by East Wind Aviation, was on its way from Port Harcourt Military Base to the NUIMANTAN oil rig when it ditched into the Atlantic Ocean near Bonny Finima at approximately 11:22 am
According to the Head of Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Odutayo Oluseyi, on board were eight persons, and sadly, three bodies have been recovered so far. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has been notified, and emergency response teams are working tirelessly to locate and rescue any survivors. The search and rescue operations are being supported by various agencies, including the Nigerian Search and Rescue Unit, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and National Safety Investigation Bureau.
The Honourable Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, is actively coordinating with relevant agencies to minimize casualties and ensure a swift response. The ministry has assured that further information will be provided as details emerge. For now, the focus is on providing necessary support to the families of those on board during this difficult time.
