The 10th House Under Hon. Aliyu Madaki

In simple terms, legislation involves making, amending, repealing and declaring laws by the legislature; and the fundamental legislative principles are the guiding rules to be followed in drafting legislation. Therefore, the act of legislation is a serious business because it directly or indirectly makes impact in the lives of citizenry. A lawmaker is faced with three core responsibilities, namely, representation, legislation and oversight functions.
However, an effective legislator is expected to be morally sound and have unquestionable character as maker, promoter and defender of the laws of the land; communicate fluently; be bold and courageous; be highly dedicated to legislative duties as well as be passionate and in constant touch with the masses.
With the successful inauguration of the 10th House of Representatives and the recent announcement of Hon. Aliyu Sani Madaki of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), member representing Dala Federal Constituency as the Deputy Minority Leader by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; political pundits envisage a robust and hyperactive house.
The emergence of Hon. Madaki as a principal officer is indeed a welcome development. He possesses the qualities of an effective legislator and has continued to enjoy the overwhelming support of his constituents with his exemplary leadership prowess that has made him inseparable with his people over the years.
Hon. Madaki is a seasoned and detribalised politician with impeccable accounting background, who successfully worked and distinguished himself during his days at the federal ministry of water resources, federal ministry of finance, and federal ministry of power, before his foray into politics. The likes of Hon. Aliyu Madaki with vast civil service and political experience can best be described as the centre of attraction in the 10th House of Representatives.
In a nutshell, I make bold to say that the 10th House of Representatives under Hon. Aliyu Sani Madaki as the Deputy Minority Leader is a clarion call for him to continue to uphold people-oriented and effective legislative duties garnered from his outstanding track records, experience, competence and accountability.
