Tallen Bids Kallon Farewell, Sents forth Kallon

The Minister of Women Affairs bided  farewell to the former United Nations Resident Coordinator, Mr Edward Kallon, for his services during his tenure and immeasurable support for women and children in the country.

Dame Pauline Tallen, the Minister of Women Affairs was yesterday joined by eminent ladies, other women, children and the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clem Agba as well as other functionary of the United Nations to bid farewell to the outgoing UN Resident Coordinator, H.E. Edward Kallon who is being deployed from Nigeria to South Africa.

Tallen declared that Nigeria Women, children, the Vulnerable persons in Nigeria and the entire Federal Ministry of Women Affairs will miss the tremendous partnership offered by the deployed UN Resident Coordinator.

The send-forth event for H.E. Edward Kallon was embedded into the interaction with the children activity which was celebrated as part of the 2021 edition of 16 Days of Activism on Ending Violence Against Women and Children, especially girls. The days of activism is a global campaign against gender-based violence that runs from 25th November to 10th December every year.

The highlight of the send-forth event was presentation of gifts from Dame Tallen to the UN Resident-Coordinator and the presentation of a plaque by the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clem Agba to the outgoing Diplomat.

Reacting to that, the seasoned humanitarian and development economist,
Mr Edward Kallon, appreciated the support received in Nigeria, called on the government to ensure full implementation of policies and laws protecting the rights of women and children.

There was also the cutting of the send-forth cake to mark the event.
