Take off of New National Parks: Conservator General visits Osun Governor …. Solicits for support

As part of the efforts by the management of the National Park Service to ensure a smooth take off of the ten (10) new National Parks recently created in the Country, the Conservator General Dr . Ibrahim Goni has visited the Governor of the State of Osun, His Excellency, Gboyega Oyetola in Government House, Osogbo.

The CG who was accompanied by some top Management staff of the Service, expressed the appreciation of the Hon Minister of State for Environment, Barr. Sharon Ikeazor,the Governing Board and Management of the Service to the Government and people Of the State of Osun for the support so far received in the establishment of the Oba Hills National Park in the State.

He thanked the Governor for the participation of the officials of the State Government in the recent Stakeholders engagements intended to facilitate the smooth take off of the New National Parks.

The Conservator General called on other States with viable forest reserves and wildlife sanctuaries to follow the example of Osun State for the possible establishment of National Parks in their domain in order to protect the Country’s critical ecosystems, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) objectives on climate change.

The Service Chief Executive further used the occasion to solicit for financial and technical support from the State Governments where the new National Parks are located, to compliment the efforts of the Federal Government in the smooth take off of the new parks
Responding, the Governor thanked the Federal Government for the upgrading of the Oba hills Forest Reserve to a National Park and pledged the continued support of the Government and people of Osun for the new park.

Recall that Oba Hills National Park is one 10 New National Parks recently created in the Country by President Muhammadu Buhari.
