Senator Moro Cries Out as Strange Disease Ravages Benue South Senatorial District
The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Abba Moro has called on all relevant authorise to come to the aid of his senatorial District as a
strange ailment is ravaging the area.
The lawmaker in a motion titled: Urgent need to deal with the outbreak of a strange ailment ravaging Epeilo -Otukpa and Itabono -Owukpa communities in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue state, noted with grave pain the outbreak of the strange ailment said to be yellow fever in the two aforementioned area councils but later turned out not to be yellow fever as those vaccinated against yellow fever are also dying.
He pointed out that at the period of writing this report, about 100 persons have been confirmed dead in the two area council which included the youth leader of Itabono, a HND 2 student of the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo.
According to him, the ailment ravaging the area has not been properly diagnosed by health authorities, even though the Benue state Ministry of Health and Human Services has been able to intervene to some extent having collected samples and sent to the National Reference Laboratory to enable them establish the kind of organism causing the ailment.
Moro urged the Federal Ministry of Health, the National Arbovirus and Vector Research Center (NAVRC) to investigate each case and respond to the outbreaks; the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) to promptly put up surveillance to contain the disease and see to the treatment of victims and protect others from further contacting it.
He also pleaded to all relevant authorises to synergize and support the people of Benue South senatorial District and in particular, Epeilo-Otupka and Itabono-Owukpa communities, for treatment, prevention and all other necessary help that is deemed fit.
The Senate President granted all the prayers to the motion.
