Senate Approves Confirmation of Dr. Salamatu Hussaini Sulieman As Chairman NHRC

The Senate on Tuesday confirms the nomination of Barrister Salamatu Hussaini Sulieman as the Chairman, National Human Rights Commission.
She was confirmed alongside other members of the commission.
Recall that the Senate at its Plenary Sitting on Wednesday, 24th March, 2021, considered Mr. President’s request, for the confirmation of nominations of the Chairman and Members of the National Human Rights Commission, and referred same to the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, for further legislative action.
The appointments was made pursuant to Section 3 (2) and (3) of the National Human Rights Commission (Amendment) Act, 2010, with particular reference to subsection (3), paragraph (a) and (b).
It is in line with the aforementioned provision that Mr President nominated the nominees for appointment as Chairman and Members of the National Human Rights Commission with requisite experience in human rights issues, subject to confirmation of such appointments by the Senate.
The nominees appeared before before the Senate Committee on Judiciary Human Rights and Legal Matters for screening on the 14th April, 2021.
The Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, having screened and carefully scrutinized the CVs and other accompanying documents of the nominees and being satisfied about their exposure, experience in human rights issues, performance, qualifications, and competence, gave the necessary recommendations for their appointment.
Those appointed are:

iv. Mrs. Dafe T. Adesida -Member;
v. Joseph Onyemaechi Mmamel-Member;
vi. Ahmad Abubakar Fingilla-Member;
vii. Kemi Asiwaju-Okenyodo -Member;
viii. Abubakar Muhammed -Member;
ix. Femi Okeowo-Member;
x. Sunny Daniel- Member;
xi. Barr. Agabaidu Chukwuemeka Jideani-Member;
xii. Mrs. Nella Andem-Rabana, SAN -Member;
xiii. Azubuike Nwakwenta -Member;
xiv. Jamila Isah-Member;
