In line with the ongoing Economic Reforms of the Cross River State Government, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of MSMEs Development Consultancy Limited, (MDCL) Ntufam Fidel Ugbo has said that the State Governor, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu is deliberate about promoting wealth creation and economic prosperity opportunities for Cross Riverians which, according to him, would make them look away from the “food-on-the-table” political appointments.
He was speaking when the Executives and Members of the Council for Unemployed Small Scale Business Owners of Nigeria, (CUSSBON) paid him a ‘thank you’ visit in his office.
Ntufam Ugbo whose Firm,MDCL was engaged by the Sen. Otu led Government to midwife the process of wealth creation and economic prosperity in the state, said Government is bent on eradicating poverty by creating opportunities for wealth and prosperity amongst Cross Riverians.
According to him,the decision to further engage CUSSBON and currently Local Government Coordinators to conduct biometric capturing of some demographics lends credence to the deliberate measures taken by the Sen.Otu Government to ensure that no Cross Riverian is left out in the economic prosperity mantra.
The measure,he emphasized, was to ensure that the vast majority of rural dwellers who are unemployed were also reached to benefit from the wealth creation and economic prosperity options soon to be rolled out by the Government.
“The Government through the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment has appointed Civil Servants as Coordinators in the eighteen Local Government Areas to capture Persons With Disabilities, (PWDs) Women in Small and Medium Enterprises, the Elderly, retired Civil Servants who have special skills.”
He recalled that CUSSBON as a grassroots organisation was engaged to go into the hinterlands to collate details of unemployed persons and Business Owners and Operators adding that the MDCL and the Government were encouraged by the outcome of that exercise.
“We are encouraged by the outcome of that exercise; to do more for the Unemployed and Business Owners/Operators in the state to accelerate the growth of the economy.”
Ugbo,a former Secretary to the State Government and Former Executive Secretary, National Planning Commission, said the MDCL will continue to leverage the many opportunities that abound both at the national and International levels of governance to push for the growth of the Cross River economy.
According to him, the office of the Vice President will also be involved in the plan to reform the state’s economy through support initiatives that would recaliberate the Business Environment in the state.
While brandishing a hardcopy of the database recently collated of the Unemployed Persons and Business Owners/Operators in the State, the MDCL Boss said “it is our desire to see that in the next few years Cross Riverians are independent and successful Business Owners, and it is our desire too that if Cross Riverians work this way,the issue of food-on-the-table appointments will become unattractive.”
Hear him: “If you get ₦150,000 from food on the table appointment, and somebody is making ₦250,000 monthly from business, you’ll see that appointment will become unattractive.”
Flanked by the MDCL Lead Consultant, Engr Agim Ikwen and other Management and Support Staff,Ntufam Ugbo praised CUSSBON for their efforts which helped to ensure that the database was raised and assured that it was going to be optimally utilised.
He charged them to be good Ambassadors of their Grassroots people while maintaining a close and healthy working relationship with the Government and other Development Partners to achieve the desired objective of economic prosperity through employment and wealth creations for all Cross Riverians.
Earlier, State Coordinator of CUSSBON,Mr. Sunny Ndep had informed the MDCL Chairman that his organization was in his office to appreciate the gesture of assigning them the responsibility of collating details of Unemployed Persons and Business Owners and Operators across the state adding that they were excited about the trust and confidence reposed in them.
Mr. Ndep also extended appreciation to the State Governor for finding them and the MDCL worthy partners in the responsibility of growing the economy of the state.
He expressed the hope that the Government would see their performance as a trust for further engagements as according to him, they are willing, able and ready for other such public engagements.
