Ten thousand school principals in Nigeria have been slated to benefit free training on personal security and school protection as spelt out by the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
Speaking on behalf of the CG, the Commander, National Safe School Response Coordination Center; Commandant Hammed Abodunrin PhD, said the measure is aimed at improving the security of schools and host communities in the face of the emerging Security challenges.
Addressing the participants at the annual conference of the All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools ( ANCOPSS);
Abodunrin said the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi has put all modalities in place to enhance the programme noting that all hands must be on the deck to ward off the evil of security challenges in the nation’s Schools.
He explained that when the heads of schools are trained on their own personal security, they would have enough confidence to respond to threats in their various places of work.
He hinted that the CG has directed the Corps would collaborate with the national centre to host the training adding that same will be provided at no cost to ANCOPSS.
“This training will be conducted free of charge. The only responsibility of ANCOPSS will be to make their members available and provide venues which could either be their secretariat or school’s auditorium”.
“Since it is practically impossible to bring 10,000 Participants together at a time; any state that is ready should just invite the centre and give dates for the training,” he said
The training he further relayed would include building the capacity of the beneficiaries in personal security skills, Hostile Environment Awareness Training, basic Child Protection skills, Information Management, Emergency Response and First Aid application among others.
While urging ANCOPSS to key into the opportunity, Dr Abodunrin disclosed that the training would be Train the Trainers pattern so that the principals can go back to train other teachers in their respective schools.
During the address, copies of the Centre’s operational activities and Schools safety tips were distributed to ANCOPSS to study in advance prior to the commencement of the training.
