RETREAT 2024: Alkali urges Staff to commit to roles outlined in Performance Bond

Honorable Minister of Transportation, Sen. Sa’id Ahmed Alkali recently delivered a keynote address at the 2024 Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) Management Retreat. The retreat, held in Kaduna from October 8-9, 2024, focused on realigning NITT’s vision with Performance Management System (PMS) and the dynamics of the transport industry.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing transportation in his governance agenda and commended the Distinguished Chairmen of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Land Transport for their support. He acknowledged NITT’s management for organizing the retreat, aimed at repositioning the Institute as a forefront of transportation education and research in Nigeria.
The transport industry is evolving rapidly, driven by technological advancements, changing consumer behaviors, and global economic shifts.
Performance Management System (PMS), is crucial for measuring progress, identifying areas for improvement, and recognizing excellence, so NITT’ was advised to position itself as the premier institution for transport training, research, and innovation in Africa.
He said NITT is now a center for converting petrol-based vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), aligning with President Tinubu’s vision.
In his welcome address the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, Director General/Chief Executive expressed gratitude for the support and contributions to the institute’s growth by the Minister, Senate and House Committees respectively.
Farah highlighted the achievements of NITT’ to include Extended Service Coverage to the six geopolitical zones. Establishing Driver Development Centers, National Transport Databank Project; Alternative Transportation Fuel (CNG), and E-booking System Portal for seamless customer services.
He further disclosed NITT’s accreditation as a National Skills Qualification (NSQ) Training Provider for 23 trade areas and its undertaking of national assignments, including the N-Build Program. The institute also secured approval for two critical PPP Projects in Alternative Energy and Databank.
He listed the Retreat Objectives to include: Review progress and lessons learned; Refine vision and goals; Foster collaboration and open communication; Embrace innovation and adaptability; Strengthen market position; Enhance customer satisfaction and Drive operational efficiency.
At the retreat’s conclusion, Farah will sign a Performance Bond with Directors and Heads of Unit to ensure delivery on assigned tasks. He assured the Honourable Minister of NITT’s commitment to its mandate, urging participants to contribute meaningfully to the deliberations.
