“Prioritize Students’ Engagement and Provide them Support Services”- UI VC to Management

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, has charged the Provosts, Deans of Faculties, Directors and Heads of Departments in the University of Ibadan to prioritize students’ engagement and provide support services to students as key components of their responsibilities.
The VC who spoke at the opening of a one-day orientation programme for these officers reiterated the University’s unwavering commitment to students’ success, saying that this commitment requires nurturing not only academic achievement but also emotional and social development.
He stated that establishing mentorship programmes, enhancing tutoring services, and creating inclusive extracurricular opportunities will enrich the students’ experience and ensure that they thrive academically and personally.
Professor Adebowale said the University’s goal is to cultivate a generation of capable, confident graduates ready to make an impact in their communities while fulfilling the mission of the University’s founding fathers.
He told the University officers that their leadership and dedication would play significant parts in shaping the academic experiences of the students.
Professor Adebowale, therefore, urged them to embrace the opportunity to not only teach but to inspire and to work together to create an enriched environment and an empowering educational journey for the students.
The Registrar, Mr Ganiyu O. Saliu, fspsp, explained that the orientation programme is organised annually to remind the participants about the culture and traditions of the University, to educate the newly appointed officers on the expectations of their offices and to educate/assist them to perform their duties excellently.
The theme of this year’s orientation programme was “Maximising Leadership Roles in University Administration”
A Keynote Speech was delivered by Professor James Akanmu, the Director University of Lagos Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement. His paper was entitled ” _Implementation of Public Procurement Act 2007, Relevant Sections of Finance Act 2020, for Effective Procurement”_
