President of Montenegro lauds the development journey of Bangladesh

Mr. Milo Đukanović, President of Montenegro highly lauded the ongoing development journey of Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He said this on 09 December 2021 while receiving credentials from Mr. Md. Shameem Ahsan, Bangladesh Ambassador to Montenegro with residence in Rome, at the Presidential Palace in Cetinje, Montenegro.
During the discussion after the ceremony, the Ambassador conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the President reciprocated it. Later, both of them noted that the historically close ties between Bangladesh and former Yugoslavia were rooted in history.
The Ambassador briefed him about the stunning successes of Bangladesh in recent years which transformed the country into a role model globally, especially in respect of economic development, woman empowerment, fighting climate change, disaster management and food production and in UN peace keeping, among others. Both of them expressed keen desire to explore possible areas of bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of textiles, trade, tourism and people to people contacts.
The President welcomed the Bangladesh proposal to sign an agreement for consultation between the two foreign Ministries.
Bangladesh Ambassador sought the support of Montenegro for the voluntary, safe and sustained repatriation of the 1.1 million forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals sheltered by Bangladesh. President Đukanović deeply appreciated the extra generosity shown by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the Rohingyas and expressed his strong support towards their early repatriation.
Montenegrin President congratulated the Ambassador for his new assignment and assured all out support during his tour of duty. Bangladesh Ambassador invited the President of Montenegro to visit Bangladesh on behalf of the President which he gladly accepted. Montenegrin President also invited the President of Bangladesh to visit Montenegro.
A Guard of Honour by a military contingent preceded the ceremony. During the presentation ceremony, Bangladesh Ambassador was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Pandora Chowdhury and Mr. Md. Ashfaqur Rahman, Second Secretary (Political) at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Rome.
