According to reports reaching Newsdotafrica, the Nigeria Police, Cross River State Command has arrested 7 persons in connection to a lady who died in a hotel located at Clement Ebri Drive, State Housing Estate, Calabar.
News had earlier circulated that a yet-to-be-identified lady, who came with a man to the hotel was found dead, with the said man being at large.
Sources said the lady followed the man who booked a room and later absconded when he realised she was dead.
Giving a clearer picture of the matter, the Police Public Relations Officer, Supol Irene Ugbo, said though the identity of the lady is yet to be ascertained but seven staff of the hotel have been arrested for interrogation.
Ugbo said: “From our preliminary findings showed that the partner to the deceased told the hotel staff that he wanted to go and use the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) but never came back.
The staff of the hotel on duty became suspicious when they waited for over three hours and the man never returned, decided to check the room, and then discovered that the lady was dead and they raised the alarm.
“We had to arrest staffers of the hotel who were on duty when the guests came into their facility. We arrested them because we need them to produce the contact of their guest in a bid to get to the root of the matter”.
The Police spokesperson urged hoteliers to improve on their data collection, especially guests coming to lodge in their hotels.
“We are already on the trail of the partner who absconded, I can assure the public that he would be apprehended as soon as possible”. Ugbo added.
