Debut Special Adviser on Diaspora Affairs to Imo state Governor was on Thursday the 4th of November spotted in the King-Power Stadium, Leicester United Kingdom, where she attended the return leg match ( UEFA Europa League Group game) of Leicester City versus Spartak Moscow.
Wakawaka Sports contacted Honourable Celia Osakwe-Hibbert following the emergence of her photos at the King Power Stadium. One of the photos was with Daniel Amartey who scored the only goal in the 1-1 draw with the visiting Moscow side. Some of the questions Wakawaka posed to Honourable Osakwe-Hibbert were centred around her view on performances of Nigerian Diasporans who play in these fixtures overseas.
Hon. Celia first commented on Kelechi Iheanacho. In her words she said “it’s beautiful to watch an Imo Diasporan put in consistent quality performance across several big games be it Premiership, EFL or UEFA Europa league. Iheanacho is outstanding and can serve as a Role Model to both young Imo youngsters here in the Diaspora and at home”. “We must learn on our Government Bodies to deliver a policy that will be deliberate in harnessing these sporting opportunities to better our communities”. Honourable Celia, who is also a qualified FA Coach/Referee with a Masters Degree in Sports from Wolverhampton University, said she will speak to her Boss, the Imo Governor and the Sports Commissioner to work on a Sports policy document of this nature.
Councillor Celia proceeded to commend several other Nigerian players who continue to put in their best in the European Leagues. She mentioned Victor Moses saying “again the only goal that came from Spartak Moscow on the night was from one of our lads Victor Moses”. ”He is another great player whom I’ve interacted with when he played here in England and when he played for Nigerian national team”. These boys are talented she added.
Recall that Councillor Celia also watched the LIVE game between Napoli and Leicester last month where another Nigeria Diasporan, Victor Osimhen also played impressively equalizing the two goals Leicester had registered on the night. Hon. Councillor Celia makes reference of this saying, “it’s usually our lads who repair the damage for their team or do the damage against their opponents”. “They are integral part of their team’s performances”
Mentions of a few other Nigerian players who give their all was made and Wakawaka Sports did agree that a lot can be achieved in grassroots Sports in Nigeria especially in Imo State should Government engage these shining stars rigorously.
Celia Osakwe-Hibbert as well as serving in the Imo State 3R Government as the Special Adviser on Diaspora is also an Elected Councillor for Penn Ward Wolverhampton United Kingdom and an avid believer in the transformational potentials within the Sports industry.
