Ogun State Gov. Names New Boxing Hall after Anthony Joshua  … Commends Hon. Bukola Olopade’s Impact on Sports Development

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has honored world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, by naming a new boxing hall after him. During a ceremony, Governor Abiodun praised Joshua as a true ambassador of Ogun State, whose success has brought pride to the state and Nigeria.

Joshua was also given a Yoruba name, “Omobowale,” meaning “the child who has come home,” in recognition of his dedication to his roots. The governor gifted Joshua a country home in Sagamu, his local government area, in appreciation of his legacy.

Governor Abiodun emphasized Ogun State’s commitment to supporting sports development and nurturing local talent. He acknowledged the state’s history of producing exceptional athletes, including Oluwatobiloba Amusan and Falilat Ogunkoya.

The governor also commended Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission, for his contributions to sports development in Ogun State and Nigeria. Olopade praised Governor Abiodun’s commitment to grassroots sports and talent development, noting that Ogun State is set to remain a beacon of excellence in Nigerian sports.
