NSCC TO PARTNER WITH AGENCIES OF GOVERNMENT IN THE REGISTRATION OF SENIOR CITIZENS IN NIGERIA

The National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), will partner with other government agencies in the registration of Senior Citizens in Nigeria.

This is coming on the heels of the declaration by President Muhammadu Buhari at the first presidential summit on ageing in Nigeria for the registration and issuance of identity cards to senior citizens in Nigeria for courtesies and other concessions in public and private spaces as well as declaration of the 5th of October, annually as National Day of Senior Citizens in Nigeria.

NSCC will collaborate with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), National Orientation Agency (NOA), Nigeria Union of Pensioners and Associations of Older Persons, the Private Sector and interested
Non-Governmental Organizations.

The National Senior Citizens Center ACT 2017 mandates NSCC to keep records of statistics of Senior Citizens and build data System and inclusion as also recommended in the National Policy on Ageing and its just completed Plan of Action.

The Presidential declaration for the Registration and Issuance of Identity Cards to Senior Citizens will facilitate Dignified Age friendly services and supportive and enabling social and physical environments are significant Policy frameworks that gives impetus to institutional partnerships, capacity building.

An official statement by the Head of Public Affairs, Media and Communication NSCC, Mr Omini Oden says this as one of the landmark achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and a milestone for Africa and the world.

The National Senior Citizens Centre is already preparing to roll out surveys on status of services in four identified sectors in the 1st phase desk reviews of World Health Organization (WHO) Age friendly Frameworks to develop Indicators and monitoring and evaluation tools for effective Sector by Sector implementation and to mount intensive Public Enlightenment campaigns on Age-friendly environments Nigeria

NSCC also welcomes partnerships as it rolls out many more innovative flagship initiatives in 2022.
