NSCC Should Be Adequately Funded – Ameh Ebute

A former Senator President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Ameh Ebute is appealing to the Federal Government to adequately fund the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) to enable it deliver on its mandate to Senior Citizens across all the sub-population categories.
One way to achieve this, is for the Government to ensure that all programs that are specifically designed or allocated to Senior Citizens from all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies are domiciled with the National Senior Citizens Centre for effective management and delivery.
Senator Ameh Ebute now a septuagenarian was speaking in Abuja while playing host to the Director General of NSCC, Emem Omokaro PhD, who has been on a high-level strategic engagement with Institutions, Organizations and Personalities in the Public and Private Sectors.
While commending the Federal Government for establishing the National Senior Citizens Centre, the former Senate President said proper funding will enable the management of the Centre actualize its programs and services to Nigerians.
He appealed to well meaning, influential Nigerians and the private sector to identify with the National Senior Citizens Centre through partnerships in some of its programs like the One Community One Senior Centre Project, Geriatric Social Care Program, Continuing Engagement Bureau Program and the Multi-Purpose Identity Card Initiative of the Centre.
NSCC Director General, Emem Omokaro earlier informed Senator Ameh Ebute of the programs of NSCC centred around; income security, health and social care, engagement capacities of senior citizens, promotion of age-friendly environment and support services, acceleration of high-level advocacy and public sensitization for positive change in perception of ageing and older persons and strengthening of partnerships and coordination, which informed her visitation to key personalities like him.
While conferring on Senator Ameh Ebute with the Distinguished Senior Citizens Engagement Award for his profound interest in mobilizing national support network for ageing programs, NSCC DG renewed her appeal to State Governments to domesticate the National Senior Citizens Act and National Policy on Ageing.
Senator Ebute Ameh Ebute served as the 6th President of the Nigerian Senate during the Third Republic.
