NSCC Engages With Stakeholders To Mainstream Geriatric Care

The National Senior Citizens Centre strategic engagement with stakeholders to mainstream Geriatric Care through the Integrated Care of Older Persons at Primary Health Centres and Communities is gaining momentum.

At a post national workshop meeting held at WHO-Nigeria office in Abuja, Director General of the National Senior Citizens Centre, Dr Emem Omokaro reiterated the commitment to ensure that the partnership with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and States Primary Health Care Development Agencies with support from WHO to mainstream Geriatric Care is actualized sustainably.

According to a statement available to News Dot Africa by the Head, Corporate Communications, Mr Omini Oden

“As next step going forward, there is going to be;
1. A baseline assessment of primary care facilities, human resource and age friendliness to identify gaps in infrastructure.
2. Desk review of existing documents and tools on geriatric care.
3. Comprehensive concept note on sub national structures and systems for integrated care of Older Persons.
4. Data mining of Older Persons (60+), that access care in Basic Health Care facilities within the FCT Primary Health Care Facility for a start.”

He noted that one of the major domains the National Senior Citizens Centre is aiming to actualize Health and Wellbeing for Senior Citizens.

The meeting was attended by officials from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, past and serving Executive Secretaries of FCT Primary Health Care, Geriatrician, Health Care consultants and the National Bureau of Statistics.
