The Nigerian Shippers’ Council NSC, has assured the Governor of Oyo State in Nigeria, Seyi Makinde of timely completion of the Ibadan Inland Dry Port IDP, saying that all outstanding issues in the Full Business Case FBC and the Concessionaire Agreement that would drive the development of the dry port have been resolved. The council also charged the government on the need to provide the necessary infrastructure that would assist the successful takeoff of the project; especially in terms of road and electricity.
Speaking Friday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital when he led the agency’s top management team on a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Government House, Executive Secretary/CEO of the NSC, Hon. Emmanuel Jime, said everything was being done towards a timely completion of the project.
While commending the State Government for the pivotal role it has played towards the actualisation of Ibadan IDP, he told the governor that Oyo, the host state has committed to providing necessary infrastructure that would assist the successful takeoff of the project; citing crucial ones being the link road from the entrance/exit of IDP, a frame bridge at the entrance/exit of the dry port and its connection to the 33KVA power supply as well as the reconstruction of Oyo – Ibadan to Moniya -Iseyin link road.
“The outstanding issues that have not been addressed by Oyo State Government include the payment of compensation for the 90 hectares of land acquired for the project, provision of infrastructure as well as need for engagement with host communities and stakeholders for their support”, Jime also said.
Governor Makinde in his response, welcome the new NSC- boss and his team to the Government House, wishing him successful tenure as the CEO of the council.
He assured that the state government wants the IDP to be operational soon, insisting that the host state will give the council maximum support for the project.
The governor said: “The IDP is a project after this administration’s heart. We are really interested in the completion of the project. We want to know when we will be able to lift the first cargo from the dry port”.
According to him, Oyo State Government wants to partner the council for speedy realisation of the project and as such appealed to council to bring to the government’s notice those things that they are doing that may impact negatively and vice versa on the project.
