NiMet DG GETS DOUBLE HONOURS IN ONE DAY

It was a day of double honours for the Director General/CEO of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu when on Thursday 21st July, 2022, was conferred with Fellow of Risk Managers Society of Nigeria (RIMSOM), as well as the Distinguish Service Award by the Rotary Club of Abuja Metro (RCAM).

The decision by the Board of Trustees and the Executive Management of RIMSON to confer the Award of the Fellow of Risk Managers Society of Nigeria on Professor Matazu was done in recognition of his integrity, professionalism, commitment and contribution to Risk Management as well as the contribution of NiMet to preventing and mitigating disasters in Nigeria under his leadership.

The well-attended event which took place at the Army Resource Center in Asokoro, Abuja, marked the high point of RIMSON’s 2022 National Risk Management Conference and Award ceremony.

The award of Fellow is a distinguished membership category of honour reserved for those who engender an embodiment of value, reformation, innovation and progress. and was conferred on him by the President/Chairman of the governing board of the RIMSON 2022-2023 Mr Gus Wiggle . Some notable recipients of the award include Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa, (rtd), Prof. Dukija J.J., Prof. Lateef Oladimeji Sanni amongst others.

In the same vein, the Board and members of the Rotary Club of Abuja Metro, RCAM, also conferred on Prof. Matazu the Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his professional leadership ability in carrying out climate and weather development and technological transformation in NiMet.

The award was presented at the investiture and fund raising ceremony of Rotarian Ifeanyi Nnodu as the 13th president of the RCAM.

In his remark after the award presentation, Prof. Matazu noted that Rotary Club as a non governmental organization and a non profit
humanitarian service provider is commendable especially with the many challenges being experienced in the world today. He observed that national development of any nation is in jeopardy in an atmosphere of chaos, diseases, disaster, epidemics, food insecurity, hazard and many more. Stressing that ” Almost across all continents of the world, humanitarian crisis is on the increase, requiring cooperation and various levels of partnership to overcome and like Rotary Club, NiMet also collaborate with various partners, government and non-governmental to co-produce and deliver user-defined impact-based products and services that are accurate, reliable and timely”. He noted that in the heart of solution is the Rotary international supporting global efforts at improving quality of lives and building international relationships.

Prof Matazu also disclosed that Rotarian Ifeanyi Nnodu, the new president of the Club, was an effective pillar of progresss in NiMet until his retirement as a worthy Director of Weather Forecasting Services.
Other recipients of the coveted award include Senator (Dr.) Darlington Eze Ajoku, Dr Halilu A. Shaba,DG/CEO National Space Research Development Agency, Mag Georg Eder,mba, Mr Alfred I. Iguh, Osi Christopher Imomoh, and Rotarian (GFL) Ayodapo Abike Majiyage. The RCAM is the biggest Rotary Club in Africa with membership of over 200 from various professions.
