The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced an improved digital pre-enrolment process for Nigerians seeking to obtain their National Identification Number (NIN) in 2026.

According to the Commission, applicants can now begin their NIN registration conveniently online by visiting the official pre-enrolment portal at penrol.nimc.gov.ng using a mobile phone or computer. The move is aimed at reducing waiting time at enrolment centers and improving service efficiency nationwide.

How to Apply for Your NIN in 2026
Start Online Pre-Enrolment
Visit the portal and fill in your biodata accurately.

Upload Required Documents
Applicants are required to upload clear copies of original supporting documents, including:
Standard Nigerian Passport
Voter’s Card
Certificate of Origin
Birth Certificate
Print Your Pre-Enrolment Slip

After completing the form, print the Pre-Enrolment Slip, which contains a unique barcode.

Once biometric capture is completed, you will be issued a Transaction Slip. Your NIN is typically ready within five working days.

Important Tip

For secure verification and authentication of your NIN and Digital Identity, download the NIMC NINAuth App from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.

The Commission encourages Nigerians to take advantage of the online pre-enrolment system to ensure a smoother and faster registration experience in 2026.
