The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has expressed immense pride in Nigeria’s vibrant and confident display at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, stating that it reflects the power of “Naija” and the strength in our diversity as a nation.
Senator Enoh made the statement on Friday night after witnessing the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
“Our outfit was unique and expressed our confidence as Nigerians. Our strength is in our diversity,” Senator Enoh remarked.
“It reflects the power of Naija, and all that we can achieve together as one indivisible country.”
The Nigerian contingent, led by flagbearer Tobi Amusan, made a striking impression draped in the expressive and beautiful green and white colors of Nigeria. “The attire radiated confidence and truly carried the ‘Spirit of Naija’,” he added.
Senator Enoh also conveyed the President’s support, stating, “President Bola Tinubu’s goodwill message will energize the team.
Tinubu had earlier sent a message to the team, saying thus: “Wishing Team Nigeria a phenomenal outing as the Paris 2024 Olympics commence in France. May God bless Nigeria!'”
The Minister praised France and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for orchestrating a world-class ceremony, which he witnessed firsthand.
The celebration is unprecedented in the 128-year history of the modern Olympiad. Instead of parading inside a stadium, over 10,000 athletes sailed in a 3.5-mile flotilla of 94 boats down the iconic Seine River in the heart of the city.
Senator Enoh concluded by emphasizing the significance of this grand event.
“The opening ceremony was a testament to the spirit of unity and celebration that the Olympics represent. We are proud to be part of this historic moment and look forward to a successful Games for Team Nigeria. We hope to build on this energy and bring glory to Nigeria.”
