Nigerians Commend Nimet’s Accurate Weather Predictions

Nigerians have begun to appreciate the accuracy and timely predictions of the Nigerian Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

The report made available to the press by the NiMet Central Forecast Office (CFO), in its weather outlook for Wednesday, August 17th and Thursday, August 18th 2022, which revealed thunderstorms and rains in some states in the country attracted commendations from some members of the public who disclosed that the are taking NiMet predictions seriously now.

The statement read in part “The outlook for Wednesday shows that a cloudy atmosphere is expected over the Northern region with chances of thunderstorms over the North Eastern parts of the country in the morning hours. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Gombe, Sokoto and Taraba state.

“Cloudy skies are anticipated over the North central region with chances of rains over Plateau, Nasarawa and Federal Capital Territory in the morning hours. Progressing into the day, there are chances of rains over most of the region.

“There are prospects of rains in the Inland cities and the Coastal states of the South throughout the forecast period.

“For Thursday, thunderstorms are expected over most of the Northern region in the morning hours. Later in the day, prospects of thunderstorms are likely over parts of Sokoto, Jigawa, Kano and Katsina state.

“Intermittent rains are anticipated over parts of the North Central region in the morning hours while the afternoon should be cloudy with chances of slight rain over Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The Inland and Coastal cities of the South have prospects of rains throughout the forecast period.

“For the Potential impact, strong winds are expected to precede the rains especially over the north and as such, unsecured objects and weak buildings may be blown away. Continuous intermittent rains also put the North Central and Inland cities at risk of floods. Emergency agencies are advised to be on alert.

“To reduce incidences of erosion and overflow of water beyond its normal limit, the Central Forecast Office advised that gutters and waterways should be cleared of debris and obstacles to ensure free flow of water.”

The aviation sector has also expressed confidence in regular and accurate predictions of NiMet.
