How Nigerian Navy Rescued 9 After Boat Capsizes in Bayelsa State

A bold rescue operation was carried out by the Nigerian Navy on December 24, 2024, in Agbura community, Bayelsa State. Eight police officers and one civilian were rescued after their speedboat hit a submerged wreck and capsized while en route to Yenagoa.

The Nigerian Navy personnel quickly administered first aid to those injured and transferred them to the Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa for further medical treatment. The recovered rifles belonging to the police officers were documented and secured, awaiting handover to the Nigerian Police Force Bayelsa State Command.

According to the Director of Information, Commodore Adams Aliyu, the successful rescue operation highlights the synergy and collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and security agencies. The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, commended the swift response and professionalism of the personnel involved, reiterating the Navy’s commitment to ensuring safety on the nation’s waterways and safeguarding lives and property within the maritime domain.
